J-School students studying abroad benefit professionally and personally from the opportunities given to them through the MU Journalism Abroad program. Whether the trip is just a few short weeks or the entire summer semester, students take home with them important lessons that last a lifetime.
Catherine Melvin, Spain
“I think I have already grown in many ways that would have not been possible had I stayed the summer in my hometown of St. Louis. My study abroad group has 11 girls and we have all bonded fantastically. It's amazing how close you can become in such a short amount of time.”

Hailey Rutledge, London
“Studying abroad isn't just a European tour. It's a lot of work both in class and in my internship. But it's worth every second of hard work. The experience is amazing, the things I've learned from my internship have been invaluable and I will never forget the time I have spent exploring the sites around England.”

Zara McDowell, Florence
“Prior to leaving I hoped to gain a once in a lifetime experience, and that is exactly what I have experienced. There is a difference between learning about a culture in another country, and living in that country and letting the culture teach you.”

Lauren Puckett, London
“London is a cultural hub - people come here from all across the globe. It's a city whose foundation is built on immigrants. So, through my study abroad experience, I hope to understand other cultures better. I also want to find a way to make my own voice - my writing - accessible and interesting to a diverse number of people.”

Rebecca Mardikes, Brussels
“If anyone decides to study abroad, it’s an important time to allow this experience to create a better relationship with yourself. Planning and travelling your own trip abroad gives you a great since of independence, a feeling I believe everyone should challenge themselves on.”
